There are three developments to the Driving Schools Directory that I
thought you should know about.

ONE

Sponsored listings can now place an image on their listing – this
could either be your school logo or say, a picture of your training
car. You will be able to do this by logging into your members Area.

Please note that the images, when displayed, will have a maximum
width of 250 pixels. This is to ensure that the web pages are not
skewed by large images. Whilst the images will be down-sized for
display, the server will still need to serve the underlying image.

If there are a number of very large images therefore, the pages
could end up being slower to be served. I would therefore request
that, where possible, you reduce the size of your images before
uploading them.

TWO

Following Ads have been introduced. These will give your driving
school improved visibility. There will only be one of these per
town so, first come, first served I am afraid.

THREE

We have changed servers for the directory. This has been a major
undertaking and whilst we believe we have covered all the bases,
some loss of functionality may have crept in unnoticed! If you come
across an area of the web site that does not seem to be performing
as it should, please be good enough to let us know by dropping an
email to [email protected].

I wonder if you could do me a few favours? The only cost will be a
few minutes of your time but your driving school should benefit in
the long run.

Favour 1

As you may be aware, I have set up a ‘Lens’ (a mini web site) at
Squidoo.com. That lens has links pointing back to the Driving
Schools Directory (DSD). The more popular that gets, the more
traffic it receives and therefore more traffic (visitors) TO DSD.

As a result of increased traffic to DSD, the directory becomes
even more popular and there is therefore, a greater chance of a
prospective pupil seeing your listing and making contact about
driving lessons.

Could I ask you to visit the following link and click the ‘Your
Rating’ stars near the top, middle of the web page. You may have to
sign up but that is a quick and painless process. Once you have
signed up, you may even want to create your own ‘Lens’ – I have
been receiving very favourable reports of new business from other
driving instructors who have built a Lens. It doesn’t take a long
and could be fun!

Favour 2

I have set up a new page to collect County / Town(s) information.
Here you will be able to describe or say something about the
county or town you work within. Why?

The search engines love original and fresh content on web pages. To
boost the counties and towns pages, where your listings reside, I
will use this content as additional information on these
pages which should help search engine popularity and therefore
traffic. More traffic = more business for you.

It doesn’t matter whether you write one line or a book! The more
information we can get, the better. I am sure most of you could
mention one or two things that your County or Town(s) are known
for, specialise in, historical point of interest etc. There is an
example on the new page.

A brand new initiative for learner drivers has been put together by Jo Winfrey Adv Dip Couns. of ‘Time Out’ Counseling Services and Ancholme Learner Driver Centre in Scunthorpe, to promote road safety for learner drivers, with particular emphasis on ATTITUDE to driving.
