If you have moved, you must update the address on your provisional driving licence. Changing it with DVLA is free, and GOV.UK says you can continue driving while you wait for the replacement licence.
You do not need to delay your driving lessons while DVLA produces the new licence after you have applied. However, you should not simply leave the old address unchanged: you could be fined up to £1,000 for failing to tell DVLA that you have moved.
How to update it
- Use the official GOV.UK service to change the address on your provisional licence.
- If you are the registered keeper of a vehicle, update its V5C log book separately.
- Update any vehicle-tax Direct Debit and personalised-registration documents that apply to you.
The online licence service applies to residents of Great Britain. Northern Ireland has a separate process.
